Castaic Area Community Standards District

The Castaic Area Community Standards District (CSD) defines the Castaic area of influence within Los Angeles County and describes the development standards that manage the growth of our community. Just as every city has its set of ordinances and development guidelines, so does the County of Los Angeles. However, with a county the size of ours, what's good for one part of Los Angeles County may not be advantageous for the rest of our county. A CSD is a set of guidelines for a specific portion of the county that have been voted on and approved by the County and subsequently entered into the book of county ordinances.

The Castaic CSD, approved by the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors in December of 2004, has been in the works for about 10 years, having been worked on by several members of the local community, county officials, and members of the Town Council. Its goal was to help maintain the rural look-and-feel and natural resources that comprise our area.

What's so important about this CSD? The CSD defines how Castaic should grow and sets up guidelines for developers, county officials, and citizens in managing that growth. It establishes the official boundary for Castaic in its relation to the surrounding communities. It identifies several ridgelines and trails in the area to be preserved and requires minimum lot sizes for new development. It touches on many other aspects of our day-to-day lives that we, as Castaic residents, wish to preserve for future generations.
